This site began in 1999 with a single political goal: to ease the suffering of Iraqi civilians due to economic sanctions. More broadly, it also sought to encourage discussion of the humanitarian consequences of political conflict. Toward these ends, it disseminated news otherwise not widely available within the U.S.

The 2003 war ultimately brought an end to sanctions, but has unleashed a conflict that threatens other countries in the region and has caused a deepening humanitarian crisis in Iraq. This website is in the process of being updated accordingly, and is also now serving as an archive for earlier commentaries.
